Deep Dive Workshop for our Divemasters in Borneo

Tuesday, July 30th, 2013 @ 10:52 Divemaster, News

deep dive

Downbelow Operations Manager and Master Scuba Diver Trainer Strike recently completed the Deep Dive workshop with our PADI Divemaster students.

While keeping a keen eye to ensure quality and performance requirements are met, the divemaster interns learned, practiced then illustrated their command of knowledge and skill to pull off a successful skills demonstration.

Deep diving brings a special set of considerations to the table compared to normal dives, which is why this specific skill is required, especially for Divemasters who may well find themselves assisting an instructor teaching this course or elective dive.

Skills highlighted during the workshop include emergency breathing equipment, specialised deep diving techniques, compass use at depth and safe ascent techniques.

Getting to grips with this and various other techniques early on, is of great benefit to the candidates of our Borneo Internships.

Keep it up future Divemasters!

Congratulations to our new PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor graduates Asia!

discover scuba diving borneo

Our guests listen attentively to the briefing for the PADI Discover Scuba Program with Downbelow instructor Michael at Downbelow’s PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre, Borneo.

The PADI Discover Scuba Diving program introduces people to scuba diving in a highly supervised and relaxed manner.

It dispels common misconceptions about scuba by letting individuals try it for themselves.

Perfect for first timers!

As part of the Discover Scuba program, and under the guidance of a PADI professional, new divers learn basic safety concepts, put on equipment and swim around underwater in a closely supervised environment.

Great job by Mike who joined us for the June PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) & is now taking part in some speciality instructor training with resident PADI Platinum Course Director Richard Swann and working towards his Master Scuba Diver Trainer qualification.

Another Recognition for Excellence to Downbelow Borneo

Thursday, July 25th, 2013 @ 15:36 Guestbook, News

Just last month our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre was selected as the winner for PADI’s Dive Education Center of the Month (June 2013), this week we received another nice surprise!

It was a Certificate of Recognition for Excellence from PADI. In it, Frances Castle, a successful candidate from our previous PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) has this to say;

“I would like to acknowledge the excellent IDC program that I have recently completed with Course Director Richard Swann of Dive Down Below, Sabah Borneo. It was a really well structured and well organised course. The teaching, facilities, staff, location and service were all excellent and I would highly recommend Dive Down Below to anyone considering doing their IDC. All candidates on the program enrolled for the IE and all were successful. Not only were we well prepared, confident and ready for the IE but also for the start of our carers as Instructors.”

If you are not sure where to complete your PADI IDC course, then you cannot go wrong with Downbelow!

We offer UNLIMITED diving throughout the program and you dive EVERYDAY if you wish in your free time (outside of the course requirement), so gaining the required amount of experience is fun and convenient as we dive 3 times a day – everyday!

You also have daily unlimited and un-restricted access to our lagoon right in front of our PADI 5 STAR IDC Centre, so any skill that you feel requires additional work can be performed and re-repeated until mastered.

Find out more about our PADI IDC internship course or you can contact us.

Perfect time to become a PADI Divemaster in Asia

Wednesday, July 24th, 2013 @ 16:16 News

Good news for those who are planning to become PADI Divemasters in 2013 as PADI Asia Pacific are running a competition for newly qualified Divemasters in the second half of the year to win an iPad every month!

The competition ‘Live the Diving Dream’ which co-incidently is our GoPro program tag is easy to join. New PADI Divemasters only have to visit and write a 50 to 100 word entry on why they chose to become a PADI Divemaster and what’s the best part of their course at the PADI Dive Centre.

This is a perfect opportunity for those who want to get their feet wet and dive (literally) into the world of scuba diving. Nothing beats getting an iPad for free after qualifying as a Divemaster, just don’t bring the iPad underwater if you win it though!

If you complete your PADI Divemaster course at our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre, Tunku Abdul Rahman Park Borneo then you are eligible to join this contest!

Full details and rules are available here. You may contact us for more details about the PADI Divemaster course.

Best Holiday Ever

Tuesday, July 23rd, 2013 @ 13:07 Guestbook

Hi Alice

Just a short message to say a HUGE thank you to you and the team at Downbelow. We returned from Borneo on Saturday and we had the best holiday ever, with the highlight being the 4 day trip to Turtle island and the Kinabatangan River. We saw wild orang utans, pygmy elephants, proboscis monkeys, silver leaf monkeys, turtles, hornbills and many more creatures. It was simply brilliant.

Your staff have been wonderful from start to fnish and we would definitely book again should we ever be lucky enough to return to Borneo. Please could you pass on our thanks to your team?

The staff at the Myne Resort couldn’t have been more helpful too and the river safaris were amazing. Our boat skipper named Tan was great and so good at spotting the wildlife.

A special thank you as well to Barak, our guide, from Megah Travel. What an absolute gentleman and so helpful and knowledgable. Please could you let Megah Travel know that Barak made our jungle experience amazing? One of the nicest guys you could wish to meet.

We are one truly happy Scottish family and one day we hope to return to your stunning country. The Malaysian people were kind, corteous and always smiling. What a pleasure!

Kind regards Lyndsay and Michael Barr and family

CESA Workshop for the Borneo PADI IDC Candidates

Monday, July 22nd, 2013 @ 14:24 IDC, News

cesa workshop borneo malaysia

As PADI Open Water instructors, one of the skills they need to teach their students is how to handle even the most unlikely emergency situation for example low on air scenarios while underwater.

This is when the Controlled Emergency Swimming Ascent or CESA, is carried out to ensure divers ascend safely.

Last weekend, our current group of PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) candidates completed the CESA workshop with resident PADI Platinum Course Director Richard Swann and Downbelow IDC Staff Instructor Paul Jones at our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre, Borneo.

CESA is something every PADI Open Water diver will learn, but with proper scuba diving practices never need to use.

Good job to the team for a successful workshop!

Borneo Divemaster Interns Gets Briefing Practice

Monday, July 22nd, 2013 @ 10:20 Divemaster, News

Our PADI Divemaster intern Guillaume Gailly is getting some public speaking practice as he gives a pre-dive briefing to our guests.

To become a fully certified divemaster, he will be expected to plan, organize and lead dives, supervise participants in PADI experience programs for uncertified divers, teach and certify PADI Skin Divers, conduct the PADI Scuba Review program for certified divers and if he chooses he can enroll in the PADI Instructor level training.

So getting information across during briefings to his guests or students is an important skill. Building his confidence can only be achieved through practice which Guillaume is doing. Of course, the briefing is under the watchful eye of our qualified instructors so he doesn’t leave out any important details.

If you are thinking of joining the professional world of scuba diving then becoming a PADI Divemaster is the first professional level in the PADI System of diver education.

Check out our PADI Divemaster internship program or contact us for details.
