The most international group of candidates we may have ever had (everyone is from a different country!) successfully completed the 2-day Kota Kinabalu Instructor Examination (IE) at our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre on Gaya Island!

Congratulations all round to our Go PRO internship candidates who all finished the performance requirements of their PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC), they even had a few days of practice before the IE too!

Their mentors were the Go PRO team who supported them all the way throughout; and leading the Go PRO team is resident Platinum PADI Course Director Richard Swann, who offered his total commitment to their professional dive training during the IDC and full support throughout their IE. Support is a counseling technique that is so crucial for our Go PRO interns to reach their professional goals.

Several of our IDC Go PRO interns are staying for another month to further their Go PRO dive training with PADI Specialty Instructor courses and enhance their career!

Our client Mark Rudes from the States achieved one of the activities on his ‘bucket list’ when experiencing our Standard 2D1N Climb Mount Kinabalu package!

The ultimate goal for many of our clients, many who visit Sabah to attempt the challenge of climbing the iconic landmark Mount Kinabalu, is to reach the Low’s Peak summit at 4,095 metres! An itinerary of one of our climbing programs is individually catered to clients by our experienced team of Sabah travel experts. All packages to climb the summit trail include transport logistics between Kota Kinabalu and Kinabalu National Park HQ, climbing permit, insurance and a private mountain guide.

Independent traveller Mark witnessed the Sabah sunrise from, quite possibly the best viewpoint in all of Sabah – Low’s Peak summit!

Mark descended part of the way via Ferrata, an adrenalin-pumping mountain climbing activity ‘Walk the Torq’. After some balancing beams and zip-line crossings, Mark continued down to the starting point of Timpohon Gate to be greeted by one of our drivers to be transferred to Kota Kinabalu.

The group of 50-strong marine enthusiasts explores the warm waters of the South China Sea through our snorkel safari island activity! The students are always under the supervision of our PADI professionals who will guide them on each session of snorkelling at the different snorkelling sites too!

In the afternoon, our island staff team gathered the excitable bunch on the beach in front of our beach house to collect any marine debris found along the Gaya Island shoreline nearby. The practical contribution to marine conservation offers a lasting impression for our young adventurers’ to gain appreciation about the positive impact their selfless volunteering has on our natural environment!

We look forward to their next visit back to Kota Kinabalu, which by that time, a scuba diving activity could be arranged to experience a new adventure!

For more information on programs our Gaya Island facilities offer, contact our Head Office where one of our travel experts will create a suitable itinerary, and for any size group too!

Not one day on the IDC has been hindered by weather conditions at all, and all participating and tanning very nicely under the Borneo sun during confined water training in front of our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre on Gaya Island!

Richard Swann, resident Platinum PADI Course Director, is assisted by his Go PRO team and IDC Staff Instructor candidates to evaluate our candidates’ performance to ensure they are qualified to enrol on the next Kota Kinabalu PADI Instructor Examination.

Our IDC interns must achieve passing scores in confined water and open water dive training, a rescue scenario, as well as multiple-choice exams on dive theory and PADI standards. Our November Instructor Development Course (IDC) candidates qualify as Emergency First Response Instructors (EFRI), which is a requirement for our professional interns to be PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors (OWSI)!

Paul Jones, our General Operations Manager and Dive Equipment Specialist, conducts the 2-day course at the multimedia classroom facilities in our Kota Kinabalu Times Square Headquarters.

Presentations of the EFRI outlines clearly how to organize and teach all skills of CPR, first aid, and primary and secondary care. The course involves effectively teaching a variety of basic first aid skills, such bandaging, splinting, serious bleeding management, chest compressions, using an automated external defibrillator, and more!

Go PRO internship candidates of our IDC will become more confident with each EFR course they teach in their future career! This course is very popular because it isn’t a requirement to be a diver, or even have any previous experience, so the range of audience is – everyone!

For more information on how to learn or teach others valuable basic first aid skills, contact our Head Office and discuss a suitable itinerary.
