Mont Kiara International Schools’ Seasfire organisation return for more dive adventure to experience in the Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park with our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre!

This is the scuba diving crews’ 3rd consecutive year, with similar faces (and new!) visiting for their annual trip to our Gaya Island beach house. Educating on marine conservation is the priority of their program, and comes so natural because all participants complete a PADI course, all of which have skills to encourage student divers to gain a deeper appreciation for the local marine environment. Those new to the crew begin their dive adventure on the PADI Open Water Diver course, and returning members  continue their dive education to qualify as PADI Advanced Open Water Divers and PADI Rescue Divers! They are also the first Seasfire crew to enjoy our new accommodation facilities – the Downbelow Adventure Lodge, located above our HQ in KK Times Square on the mainland.

One of our PADI Instructors, Pablo, is sharing his knowledge and passion of scuba diving with his PADI Advanced Open Water student.

Qualifying as a PADI Advanced Open Water diver requires five open water training dives to be completed and a review of knowledge development correlating to those dives must be discussed between instructor and student. Two of these dives are mandatory to achieve certification, which are the deep dive and the underwater navigation dive. The combination of these disciplines will prepare the student diver for future dives to depths of up to 30 metres because this is the maximum depth set by PADI standards for recreational divers certified as PADI Advanced Open Water diver.

Pablo and his student complete these two dives, after a quick review of scuba diving skills and academic knowledge acquired from the entry-level PADI Open Water course.

The following day, Pablo won’t be teaching his student because she will be climbing to the summit of Mount Kinabalu instead! She’ll be back the following day to continue her PADI Advanced Open Water course though!

Many of our clients travel from far and wide to visit Borneo and want to try everything with the time available. Our programs are tailored to suit our clients’ goals for their holiday adventures in Sabah and our customer service is top priority to cater an itinerary for your activities. Your necessities, such as accommodation and transport are arranged for your convenience.

Explore your diving interests with the PADI Advanced Open Water course!

Compass

The PADI Advanced Open Water course is a fantastic way of continuing your scuba diving education!

There are plenty of PADI Specialties to choose from to experience a variety of scuba diving disciplines, such as underwater photography, enriched air diving, wreck diving, night diving and the list goes on!

One of our PADI Instructors, Pablo, is teaching the PADI Advanced Open Water course to two local clients who want to develop their passion of scuba diving.

A requirement of the course is to successfully complete skills of the deep dive and the underwater navigation dive.

Before conducting the deep dive, Pablo will assess the dive conditions as well as his students’ abilities. With his sound judgement, as expected of all professional divers, he will evaluate his students’ skill performance after a thorough briefing of what will be expected once at depth. Deep dives involve more considerations, so students must plan the dive conservatively, bearing in mind air consumption and possible physiological effects.

Dive planning is a skill mastered in the PADI Open Water course because it is a skill that must be done before every single dive! As for the underwater navigation dive the value of learning the skills involved are to instil in divers’ the confidence and independence to navigate along a reef for efficient dive planning. Knowing the bearings of, for example a shipwreck, divers are able to dive directly to the point of interest on that reef.

A PADI Advanced Open Water course consists of another three dives, of which the student may elect the scuba diving discipline they would like to experience.

One of our experienced PADI Instructors will also discuss with you the options that are best suited to the local dive practices within the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park.

Professional Intern Gains Experience As Downbelow Guest Completes PADI Advanced Open Water in Borneo

Friday, December 27th, 2013 @ 08:30 Advanced Open Water Course, News, Professional Diving Internships

PADI Advanced Open Water Borneo

Downbelow dive instructor Victorley aka Big Vic is pleased to congratulate his student Chung for completing the PADI Advanced Open Water course with Downbelow.

The Advanced Open Water course is a natural progression from the PADI Open Water course and offers new experiences, new skills and lots of diving all under the direct supervision of your instructor, you don’t have to “feel” at an advanced level to embark on this new level of diving.

The Tunku Abdul Rahman Park in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah provides an ideal venue for the course, with wreck, reefs and lots of critters to explore.

Assisting Big Vic is Danielle, who is on her professional internship with Downbelow where she is currently completing the PADI Divemaster program and later on, for the PADI Instructor Development Course early 2014.

She is getting valuable experience as she witnesses how in real life a PADI Instructor will teach the PADI System of diver education.

Good job everyone!

Improving Diving Knowledge While Working in Borneo

boat-captain-learning

At Downbelow it’s all about diving and personal development. We put our confidence in anyone who wants to improve themselves and further their education.

That is one of the benefits of working with Downbelow. Our staff can take the opportunity that is presented to them, just like our boat captain Cindy Valton George who has joined our guests in completing the PADI Advanced Open Water Course on his days off.

The course itself was conducted by Downbelow Instructor Azmil Aminud aka Mel who worked his way up (well actually down if you think about it physically). Previously he was also our boat captain and look at him now, confidently introducing our guests to the wonderful world of diving as a fully qualified PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.

Keep it up Cindy!

Dive in Borneo – rain or shine!

Good thing about diving is usually the rain will not disrupt your diving plans!

Our guests at our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre braved the tropical rain but still enjoyed their dives while taking the PADI Advanced Open Water & PADI Enriched Air Nitrox Scuba Course.

PADI’s Advanced Open Water Diver program fine tunes your dive skills and allows you to explore some of diving’s top adventures. This course attracts divers with varied amounts of experience from those who have just gained their Open Water Certification to those who have been diving for some years.

The PADI Enriched Air Nitrox Scuba Course lets you safely extend your no stop time beyond the no decompression limits for air – meaning more time underwater.

All of these courses take place at our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre, so you are not stuck in the classroom or boat for the day – learn in Paradise!

Miss scuba diving? Then come and dive with us – rain or shine!
