Natalia, one of our happiest Go PRO interns at Downbelow, just completed her PADI Divemaster internship program with our Go PRO team member PADI IDC Staff Instructor, Strike!

Strike’s mentorship of Natalia is heavily supported by our Go PRO team’s ‘team-teaching’ method; and for the past month, Natalia has learnt so much about the professional scuba diving industry because she had been living the diver lifestyle at our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre in TAR marine park of Kota Kinabalu.

She has gained a lot of confidence as a dive leader, and she will continue her diver education on our next PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) too!

‘Work For a Career’ PADI Divemaster internship candidates, Chris and Oliver, receive the Go PRO PADI Platinum level of attention!

It’s been an amazing journey for them as they’ve observed the smooth running of Downbelow’s premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre facilities based in the Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park.

Mentor resident Platinum PADI Course Director, Richard Swann, couldn’t be happier with their development so far. Richard and Downbelow’s Go PRO team are very much looking forward to developing Chris and Oliver even further on our award winning PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) and certify them as PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors (OWSIs)!

Follow the rest of their journey on our many social media platforms, such as Twitter and Facebook, and contact us as soon as you’re ready to Go PRO yourself!

It’s been 100% success for Go PRO interns!

This month has been really lively at our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre with lots of PADI Divemaster candidates; and better yet, it’s been 100% success for our Go PRO interns too!

Go PRO team member and PADI Master Instructor Paul Jones, congratulates our latest PADI Divmeatser graduates on their successful completion of all performance requirements, and soon they will receive their confirmation from PADI to start living their diving dream!

Rene and Huimei from Holland, learnt to dive on the PADI Open Water Diver course the previous summer at our Gaya Island beach house; and with each return trip to Kota Kinabalu, they continued their diver education with our dive operations.

We won’t be surprised to see them once again later on in this year, or the following summer, to enrol on our award winning PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC)! It’s natural and logical for Divemasters to continue onto qualify as PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI), and they’ve got the advantage that our Go PRO team know their leadership capabilities very well already!

ReActivate confidence as GoPRO intern!

padi idc staff instructor, padi divemaster, go pro internship program, reactivate, emergency first response, padi rescue diver, padi advanced open water diver, padi instructor development course, professional scuba diving internship, padi 5 star idc dive centre, go pro team,

Go PRO intern Leanne experiences her confidence soar after scoring high on her conduct of the ReActivate program!

PADI IDC Staff Instructor Strike assesses Leanne’s control of her students’ skills in the confined water environment in front of our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre. This being the first session, is treated as practise, but even so Leanne achieved a very respectable score from one of our Go PRO team mentors!

Leanne arrived at our Gaya Island paradise beach house as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, and continued her diver education to certify in the PADI Rescue Diver combined with the Emergency First Response course – all of which are pre-requisites to enrol on the PADI Divemaster course.

Steadily she has gained confidence in her dive leadership and our Go PRO team always encourage professional scuba diving interns to continue their professional diver education. Our next award winning PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) will be starting August 31st, and Leanne is definitely considering enrolling on the course and start to really ‘live the diving dream’ she’s chasing!

How do Go PRO advisors personalise internships?

Go PRO advisors at our Kota Kinabalu HQ possess years of experience to personalise internships for our professional scuba diving candidates!

PADI IDC Staff Instructor Pablo has recently mentored Jessie from Hong Kong who completed the PADI Divemaster course in a 10-day Go PRO internship itinerary! By PADI standards, the Divemaster takes a recommended amount on 50 hours to complete all performance requirements, and still offers Jessie a comfortable amount of time to finish her requirements. Jessie frequently visits our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre (as a matter of fact, she completed ALL of her diver education under our PADI Instructors supervision!); and we’re expecting to see more of Jessie in future, and with every visit our Go PRO team will surely encourage her to use those dive leadership skills she learnt so she builds her confidence until she’s ready to continue to our award winning PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC)!

Jessie is a full-time history teacher in Hong Kong, and could be back with her very own students to guide them on a scuba diving excursion around Sabah – both in the Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park, as well as the world famous Sipadan Island!

At our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre, four PADI Divemasters are ready for the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC)!

Resident Platinum PADI Course Director Richard Swann has mentored Go PRO interns, Julia, Steph, Bob and Jason, to qualify in the first professional level in the PADI diver system of education under our highly successful and attractive Go PRO internship programs.

The foursome are also enrolling on the next step of their professional diver education to certify as PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, after completing our Go PRO teams’ award winning IDC and passing the PADI Instructor Examination too!

Go PRO advisors based at our Kota Kinabalu HQ needed to arrange their internships specifically to suit their goals, which means more than the minimum duration of 1 month. All candidates take advantage of other benefits we offer on the internships, particularly the special discounts when purchasing any dive equipment from our Kota Kinabalu Dive Shop and programs from our Sabah Travel Centre. One of our most popular amongst interns is our 2D1N standard mountain climbing package to reach Mount Kinabalu’s Lows Peak!

Platinum PADI Course Director goes diving with Go PRO interns!

Downbelow Marine and Wildlife Adventures resident Platinum PADI Course Director, Richard Swann, goes diving with Go PRO interns in the TAR marine park, Kota Kinabalu!

Our Go PRO interns receive a ‘Master Class’ in dive guiding to improve their awareness of our local environment and exercise their own sound judgment. There are a variety of environmental conditions that can effect a single dive, such as water visibility, temperature, current, and others. Richard encourages our interns to engage themselves in any opportunity at our dive operations that they may improve their dive leadership abilities.

Julia, from the US, is learning very quickly through the many scenarios to experience the dive lifestyle: from deploying a surface marker buoy with a dive reel to offering a student diver recommendations on dive equipment and/or dive travel; drawing on her own experience.

Our Go PRO interns will be completing the PADI Divemaster first and practising those skills they learn in that course as much as possible, before their next step: PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC).

Downbelow’s Go PRO team will be starting their next award-winning PADI IDC on May 26th to prepare the candidates for the next Kota Kinabalu PADI Instructor Examination (IE) on June 11th-12th!

For more information on how to enrol, contact one of our helpful and experienced Go PRO advisors based at our Kota Kinabalu HQ!

Practical experience as a PADI Divemaster!

tar marine park, downbelow marine and wildlife adventures, go pro internship program, padi divemaster, local opportunity, marine biodiversity, padi rescue diver, resident platinum padi course director,

Resident Platinum PADI Course Director Richard Swann attests that practical experience as a PADI Divemaster on our Go PRO internship programs is a favoured learning method for our ‘Work For a Career’ trainees!

Now they have completed their PADI Rescue Diver course, Oliver and Chris have only just begun their journey into the professional scuba diving industry.

Richard shares his experience on the running of a smooth dive operations that prioritises diver safety. They will gain confidence with more knowledge they have, so for their ‘lesson’ recently, Richard briefs them on spotting underwater marine life. It’s a skill that needs practise, which is why many of our island staff team (even those very experienced senior PADI Instructors), go leisure diving during their days off too.

The more they ‘fine-tune’ their eyes to search for certain animals, the quicker they spot it for their diving clients who will be very happy to see it! Richard briefs the boys on how to find a ghost pipefish he spotted on a recent dive, with very precise details of its behaviour – because its behaviour dictates its habitat!

The boys will be getting lots more experience guiding as we have plenty of adventure travel groups, such as Expedition Borneo, arriving at our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre to explore TARP!

For more information on the variety of diver experiences our Go PRO internship programs offer, contact our Kota Kinabalu HQ to discuss a suitable itinerary with our experienced and helpful Go PRO advisors!

Go PRO advisor Sarah Jane hands over Jed’s educational materials, which are extensive, as he will be starting from the PADI Open Water Diver course! He will continue to qualify as an Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver with Emergency First Response certification and finally the PADI Divemaster!

Over his 6-month Go PRO internship program, his goal is to reach the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor during our August/September PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC)!

It’s just all about SCUBA for Jed this 2015! Actually, he will be taking breaks ‘here and there’ during the next several months, and will explore other attractions, such as Mount Kinabalu, or wildlife safaris on Sabah’s east coast along the famous Kinabatangan River!

We’re anticipating it will be very difficult when that day comes when he leaves us and Sabah, Borneo. You’re always welcome to visit Downbelow anytime in the future though, Jed! Make sure to enjoy every minute of your dive lifestyle with us right now!

Instead of going under the water, Mike wants to explore above the water – Mount Kinabalu! Sabah Travel Centre Manager Alice was Mike’s Go PRO advisor and created his personalised professional dive internship itinerary. Great news for Mike: Alice knows exactly what to expect and shares with him every detail he needs to successfully reach the 4,095m mark in our 2D1N standard mountain climbing program!

Alice also encourages Mike to participate in the Lows’ Peak via Ferrata circuit because it’s the worlds’ highest via Ferrata, with its starting point at 3,776m altitude, and it gives an unbelievable adrenalin-high and stunning views of the vast Crocker Range!
