PADI Divemaster Course Officially Starts For Our Interns

The journey begins for Karen, Chris & Martin as they officially start their PADI Divemaster internship program with Downbelow IDC Staff Instructor Paul this week at our island PADI 5 star IDC Dive Centre in Kota Kinabalu.

After a few weeks of preparation that involved diving and completing the Emergency First Responder (EFR) course, now they will have to double their effort (and fun) for the next few weeks.

It all starts with knowledge review on a sunny day in tropical Sabah. Have fun and all the best!

Emergency First Response EFR in Borneo

Looks like our PADI Divemaster pro interns are having a blast! They have now completed the Emergency First Response (EFR) course with Downbelow instructor Tim at our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre in Borneo.

These awesome and hardworking interns joined us in May and in a week or two, will call themselves PADI Divemasters!

With the EFR qualification out of the way, they are now one-step closer to actually reaching their objective the PADI Divemaster course.

All the best and we are looking forward to seeing all of you as Divemasters soon!

PADI Divemaster Sabah Interns Progressing Well

Great progress is being made by our latest PADI Divemaster pro interns Martin, Chris, Karen & Christina who are working their way through the various PADI courses as part of their professional diving internship with Downbelow.

The foursome joined Downbelow just a week ago and will stay for a month to complete their PADI Divemaster course, after this Martin will remain with us to gain experience and complete his IDC this coming September. They also volunteered to help out with our conservation program when we removed another illegal net found within the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park last week.

Currently they are completing the Rescue Diver Course with Downbelow instructor Tim enroute to their PADI Divemaster program.

Awesome work guys well done!

Another PADI Pro hatchling has emerged from its shell!

Resident PADI Platinum Course Director Richard Swann and the whole Downbelow family is happy to congratulate Dylan Lim for successfully meeting all the performance requirements and becoming a PADI Divemaster.

He came to us as an intern and now he’s a qualified Divemaster – nothing makes us happier then to see a recreational diver take the plunge into the world of professional scuba diving and succeed.

Great job Dylan! You are most welcome back to our dive centre if you ever need to learn more.

Asia Professional Dive Internship Going Strong

Downbelow continues its commitment to our local professional dive internship program.

Next up is “Little Gary” who is the most recent addition to the Downbelow family team.

Gary joined our guest Rafael from Mexico to complete his PADI Openwater Course with their qualifying instructor, Downbelow’s PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Liz.

This will be Gary’s first step in his year long program to become a fully qualified and experienced PADI Divemaster.

After this, he may well have the opportunity to continue his diving career by joining one of our PADI Instructor Development Courses (IDC).

Local Internship Program Continues To Bear Fruit

Well done to Rev Anson, one of our recent Downbelow local interns, for passing his PADI Open Water course with Downbelow Staff Instructor Pablo.

Pablo also came through the same local internship program with resident Platinum PADI Course Director Richard Swann and the rest of the team.

Both internship programs were conducted at our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre in Kota Kinabalu, Borneo.

It is great to see the team passing on their knowledge to the new arrivals & I am sure we will see Revor Anson achieving the PADI Divemaster qualification over the next 1 year.

PADI Divemaster Briefing Practise

Jolene Burr who is taking the PADI Divemaster course practised her PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) program on Jason Kovacs under the supervision of her instructor Victor.

One of the skills needed to become a qualified PADI Divemaster is to be able to supervise students and their diving activities.

The PADI Divemaster program is the first step in the professional level of the PADI education system and you can take this course at Downbelow, either as a 10-day program or a one-month internship course.

The course itself will be held at our PADI 5-Star IDC Dive Centre in Gaya Island, Borneo.

A big congratulations to our students, Jason from Australia and Azmi from West Malaysia for qualifying as PADI Divemasters over the weekend.

They have completed their first step in becoming a professional in the world of SCUBA diving. A special mention to their respective qualifying instructors too, Paul for Jason and Wellson for Azmi.

Captain Mel Now A PADI Divemaster

Captain Mel from Downbelow now fully certified PADI Divemaster

The management team from Downbelow always encourage their staff to improve themselves and also to take advantage of having PADI professionals as their colleagues to improve their diving skills.

Our latest staff member who took this advice and took a step up the ladder in his diving carear is our Captain Mel who is now a certified PADI Divemaster.

His instructor and mentor, resident PADI Course Director Richard Swann said he put in a lot of work, so he should be proud of his achievement.

He is not resting on his laurels though, now he is aiming to join the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) in May 2013.
