Another PADI Pro hatchling has emerged from its shell!

Resident PADI Platinum Course Director Richard Swann and the whole Downbelow family is happy to congratulate Dylan Lim for successfully meeting all the performance requirements and becoming a PADI Divemaster.

He came to us as an intern and now he’s a qualified Divemaster – nothing makes us happier then to see a recreational diver take the plunge into the world of professional scuba diving and succeed.

Great job Dylan! You are most welcome back to our dive centre if you ever need to learn more.

Asia Professional Dive Internship Going Strong

Downbelow continues its commitment to our local professional dive internship program.

Next up is “Little Gary” who is the most recent addition to the Downbelow family team.

Gary joined our guest Rafael from Mexico to complete his PADI Openwater Course with their qualifying instructor, Downbelow’s PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Liz.

This will be Gary’s first step in his year long program to become a fully qualified and experienced PADI Divemaster.

After this, he may well have the opportunity to continue his diving career by joining one of our PADI Instructor Development Courses (IDC).

Local Internship Program Continues To Bear Fruit

Well done to Rev Anson, one of our recent Downbelow local interns, for passing his PADI Open Water course with Downbelow Staff Instructor Pablo.

Pablo also came through the same local internship program with resident Platinum PADI Course Director Richard Swann and the rest of the team.

Both internship programs were conducted at our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre in Kota Kinabalu, Borneo.

It is great to see the team passing on their knowledge to the new arrivals & I am sure we will see Revor Anson achieving the PADI Divemaster qualification over the next 1 year.

PADI Divemaster Briefing Practise

Jolene Burr who is taking the PADI Divemaster course practised her PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) program on Jason Kovacs under the supervision of her instructor Victor.

One of the skills needed to become a qualified PADI Divemaster is to be able to supervise students and their diving activities.

The PADI Divemaster program is the first step in the professional level of the PADI education system and you can take this course at Downbelow, either as a 10-day program or a one-month internship course.

The course itself will be held at our PADI 5-Star IDC Dive Centre in Gaya Island, Borneo.

Captain Mel Now A PADI Divemaster

Captain Mel from Downbelow now fully certified PADI Divemaster

The management team from Downbelow always encourage their staff to improve themselves and also to take advantage of having PADI professionals as their colleagues to improve their diving skills.

Our latest staff member who took this advice and took a step up the ladder in his diving carear is our Captain Mel who is now a certified PADI Divemaster.

His instructor and mentor, resident PADI Course Director Richard Swann said he put in a lot of work, so he should be proud of his achievement.

He is not resting on his laurels though, now he is aiming to join the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) in May 2013.

Another Divemaster Qualifies with Downbelow

Downbelow’s Go Pro crew has been cooking recently, helping scuba divers make the leap from recreational to professional diving.

Recent graduate Noah became a PADI Divemaster just last week.

“Well done to Noah,” said resident PADI Course Director Richard Swann when he congratulated Noah on joining the realm of pro scuba divers.

Paul Jones, Noah’s qualifying Instructor, was also on hand to see him become a consummate diving professional.

“Great effort,” said Paul who is himself a Downbelow Alumni.

“We looking forward to welcoming you back for your IDC next year!”

Downbelow’s has a regular schedule of Instructor Development Courses, the next installment of which is coming up in less than 2 weeks.

Pro Scuba Diving Intern Becomes Divemaster with Downbelow

Divemaster Intern Insa have clinched the course and collected her PADI Divemaster certification.

Having been with us for the last few weeks, Insa has made an impression on the Go Pro internship program. Downbelow’s MD and resident PADI Course Director Richard Swann has seen her grow as scuba diving pro.

“You will be an asset,” Richard said when talking about Insa, “to the industry wherever you settle.”

“Insa is an awesome professional,” he said, “with a firm commitment to the environment.”

Insa met all the performance requirements for the PADI Divemaster Course and helped out on the numerous Project AWARE events Downbelow ran in October.

She went on to ace her Divemaster exams and now sets off to start her career as a scuba diving professional.

Congrats to Insa and good luck with your professional diving career.

We hope to see you again soon, perhaps when you return to become a PADI Instructor during one of our IDCs?
