Take the Master SCUBA Diver Challenge!

Friday, December 7th, 2012 @ 08:57 Courses, Diving Borneo, News, Promotions

By becoming a PADI Master SCUBA Diver you will be in a class of distinction; the best of the best in recreational diving!

The PADI Master SCUBA Diver is a direct application to PADI through Downbelow and not a course in itself. Rather it’s a prestigious rating to indicate that you’ve acquired significant experience and training in a variety of SCUBA environments.

In the PADI system of diver education, the PADI Master SCUBA Diver rating is the highest non-professional level you can reach.

Learn how to capture your magical moments underwater with Downbelow's Digital Underwater Photography course

How Does It Work?

Depending on what diver qualification and how many dives you have already completed, it could take as little as 1 day.

Alternatively, participants can join us for 1 month internship to complete all the required training.

The number of specialities you will be taking will also determine the price of the course.

The Master Scuba Diver Challenge

Because we will tailor the course to your particular diving interests and abilities, the Master SCUBA Diver Challenge can be taken at any point during your diving education.

This makes it fun and rewarding, enabling you to achieve the rating easier.

A PADI Rescue Diver qualification, 5 speciality ratings and at least 50 logged dives are required for the Master SCUBA Diver rating.

To choose the specialities which interest you, simply refer to our PADI Speciality Course page. If one of your chosen specialities were done during your PADI Advanced Course, you can reduce time and costs by getting credit for it.

We are currently giving the Master SCUBA Diver application fee for FREE – but for a limited time only!

Get in touch with us, and tell us what your current diver level is, how many dives you’ve logged, the time available to you to complete the course and what type of accommodation you prefer.

We will put together a fantastic quotation for you!

Divemaster Intern Nigel Going for a Nightdive in Sabah, Borneo

Monday, September 5th, 2011 @ 17:29 Divemaster, Diving Borneo, News, Professional Diving Internships

Sabah, Borneo: Our Divemaster Internship program grew by 1 on Saturday when new Divemaster Intern Nigel joined us here on the lovely Gaya island off the coast of Sabah, Borneo.

Nigel from England will be on the Divemaster internship with us for the next month earning his stripes as a PADI Divemaster under the guidance of resident PADI Course Director Richard and his Go Pro Team.

From left to right, Divemaster interns Takeshi, Weijia and Nigel getting ready for their night dive.Over the weekend Nigel made himself comfortable at our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre in the TAR Park, which is where he will be every day for the next month. It’s a great place to “work” and certainly one of best classrooms in Sabah, Borneo.

After a weekend of diving, Nigel is teaming up with other Divemaster interns Takeshi and Weijia as I type this, getting ready for a night dive.  It’s all part of the unlimited diving, which all our professional diving interns enjoy during their internship with us.

Apart from our Divemaster internship which is very popular at the moment, we also run 4 Instructor Development Courses IDC every year, which lends itself perfectly to internships too.

The internships are very flexible as long as they include the IDC dates and will benefit you because of the real world experience you will gain in our busy dive centre.

Additionally, if you arrive before the IDC you will gain skills and experience that will contribute to the learning curve of the IDC, or if you stay after the IDC you can gain experience as qualified Instructor and gain experience teaching real clients.

Either way, the 1 month (up to 6 month if you wish) internship will benefit you no end, and the unlimited diving means you can be in the water as much as your bottom time allows.

Stay tuned for the progress of our interns.

Jerudong International School group from BruneiKota Kinabalu, Sabah: The Jerudong International School from Brunei was back with Downbelow on Gaya Island last week for a diving trip of note.

Last year we also hosted the Jerudong International School students, and they had so much fun that they came back for more of the same.

As is now the custom, a great time was had by all and we were glad to see old friend against whilst we made plenty of new friends too.

The Jerudong International School group participated in PADI Junior Open Water courses and qualified as Junior Open Water divers.

Jerudong International School divesThe school group also took part in the PADI Underwater Photography and PADI Coral Reef Conservation speciality courses.

Of course, there were plenty of fun dives in between during which to use their newfound skills.

A big thanks goes out to Mr. Strange for organising the group of the Jerudong International School in Brunei this year.

We very much look forward to having you all back at our dive centre on Gaya island in the very near future.

June Speciality Instructor Training Courses in Kota Kinabalu

Saturday, July 9th, 2011 @ 09:00 Courses, Diving Borneo, News, Speciality Instructor

Speciality Wreck Diver Instructor practice session on a small fishing wreck in the TAR parkSabah, Borneo: The adventure continues for some of our recent successful PADI Instructor Development Course IDC candidates with a slew of speciality instructor training courses.

Our resident PADI Course Director Richard took the new Open Water SCUBA Instructors to new depths, literally and figuratively, while he conducted several speciality instructor courses.

PADI Course Directors are the only PADI professionals qualified to teach instructors how to be speciality instructors.

Each instructor speciality that the Open Water Instructors acquire, make them more valuable employees with an increasingly diverse skill set to offer future employers.

The particular 5 specialities are also a prerequisites for becoming a Master Scuba Diver Trainer MSDT, along with also qualifying 25 divers.

Kath, George and Downbelow’s home-grown hero, Wellson, are now all fully qualified instructors for the following specialities:

  • Wreck Dive,
  • Deep Dive,
  • Digital Underwater Photography, and
  • Enriched Air Nitrox &
  • Emergency Oxygen Provider.

Congratulations to all, especially Downbelow’s Wellson who is well on his way to becoming a Master Scuba Diver Trainer MSDT.

Loving the High Tide at the Dive Station

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011 @ 14:17 Dive Sites, Diving Borneo, News

Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, Kota Kinabalu: The island crew at our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre on Gaya island loves when it’s high tide and the boats can come right up to the dive centre.

Downbelow runs a busy dive centre and we recently increased our fleet of boats to 4.  More space, more comfort and divers can now get around to all the park’s best diving spots in smaller groups and faster too.

Join us for a SCUBA diving course or two, or an all inclusive, 3-dive day of diving.  If you’re a Sabah resident you can even join our KK Dive Club and dive more often for less.

An Absolutely Amazing Time in Sabah, Borneo

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011 @ 12:21 Diving Borneo, Guestbook

Hi Magdalene,

I just wanted to say we had an absolutely amazing time in Sabah, Borneo, and wish we were still there!

Thanks very much for organising it. In particular our time in Bilit was fantastic, and our guide, Robert, was so knowledgeable about the wildlife it was incredible! If you could pass on our thanks it would be much appreciated.

Lankayan Island was also beautiful and the staff were brilliant.

I hope to return one day!

Thanks again
Alissa

Customised Professional Divemaster Internship

Kota Kinabalu, Sabah: Downbelow has 2 new interns on Gaya Island, currently working their way up to Divemaster with one of our customised Professional Divemaster Internships.

First Steps: freshly Open Water qualified Andy and Denise with Instructor Lester in the middle.Andy and Denise, from the UK, are joining us for 2 months at the end of which they would have qualified as Divemasters.

Why, might you ask, will it take them 2 months to complete our PADI Divemaster Internship, when it’s stated on our website that it only takes 1 month?

Well, Andy and Denise joined us as swimmers, rather than already qualified Open Water divers with the other prerequisites needed for entry into our 1 Month – PADI Divemaster Internship.

This is where Downbelow’s ability to tailor-make our packages for our customers come in handy, because Downbelow could accommodate them by customising a Divemaster internship to suit their needs.

Getting qualified is only part of the internship though, as qualifying as a Divemaster also requires a minimum of 60 logged dives.

Again, Downbelow is unbeatable in this area, because our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre is based on Gaya island, from where we dive every day.

Logging dives in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park is not only as easy as stepping off the jetty near the dive centre, but with over 25 other, nearby dive sites around the park, and our 3, fast, custom-made dive boats servicing our guests, it’s a pleasure as well.

With Downbelow’s unlimited diving as a feature of our internships, Andy and Denise will be able to log dives as quickly, or as leisurely, as they want.

We look forward to guiding our newest interns on the path to becoming Divemasters and wish them luck.

If you too want to Go Pro with PADI and Downbelow, check out our Go Pro & Internship section on our website, or email us for more information.
