Just another day at the office - ELCAS in Sabah, Borneo, MalaysiaELCAS is the British Ministry of Defense’s (MOD) Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC) scheme, which promotes lifelong learning amongst members of the British Armed Forces.

The ELC scheme gives financial support to HM Forces personnel for higher-level education by way of a single, up-front payment, once per year for 3 years.

The funds, for overseas pursuits, are only available to Armed Forces personnel for higher-level learning that results in an internationally recognized qualification equivalent to a NVQ Level 3 or above qualification on the NQF in England and Wales, or Level 6 and above qualification on the SCQF in Scotland.

Downbelow offers PADI Open Water SCUBA Instructor courses that are ELCAS approved courses qualifying for ELC scheme funding.

Become a Scuba Instructor and teach the art of diving - ELCAS courses in Sabah, Borneo, MalaysiaThe ELC scheme is a reward scheme for British military personnel, based on strict entry criteria, and is available in 2 tiers:

  • Lower Tier, for 4 years or more of eligible service and claims up to £ 1,000,
  • Upper Tier for 8 years or more of eligible service and claims up to £ 2,000;

Subject to meeting all the criteria, British Armed Forces personal can claim ELC funds in 3 separate financial years, which need not be consecutive. Claims can be made either whilst in service, or for up to 10 years after.

Weather

We dive every day, because we can.

Here in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah it’s always hot, and we consider the water cold when it drop to 28°C.

Being below the monsoon belt we are rarely bothered by the rain, and when it does pour it does so for a few hours per day only.

Even so, it almost never stops us from diving.

The team in charge of training you for your career in diving is headed by Downbelow’s owners – British Expats Richard, who is our the resident PADI Course Director, and Joanne, PADI Master Instructor.

They have a wealth of instructor and diving experience, and – regularly hosting groups from various branches of the British Military – are well versed in hosting and training the British Armed Forces.

They have been organizing and conducting LC Adventure Training for HM Forces since 2004.
