Kinabalu International School Enjoys KK Dive Club

Friday, November 16th, 2012 @ 09:50 KK Dive Club, News

Mr. Pearson (far right) and members of the KIS Dive Club, enjoying KK Dive Club privileges at Downbelow's dive centre on Gaya island

It was great to see students from the Kinabalu International School at Downbelow’s PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre on Gaya island this weekend.

Downbelow has been running the KK Dive Club for quite a while and it’s really gained momentum amongst KK’s scuba divers.

The club, aimed specifically at Sabah’s residents, encourages, at very competitive prices, the enjoyment of the resources Kota Kinabalu is so lucky to have right on the city’s doorstep.

At the Kinabalu International School (KIS) they have their own in-house version of the dive club catering specifically to KIS students and teachers.

Headed by Mr. Gareth Pearson, KIS teacher, avid diver and instructor himself, he enthusiastically encourages club members to discover the underwater word through scuba and improve their diving through dive courses.

From the group that visited us this weekend, 4 students completed their PADI Open Water Scuba Diving qualifications.

An additional 5 students completed their PADI Advanced Open Water courses, which was conducted by Mr. Pearson himself.

We look forward to the KIS students returning to us again soon to take advantage of their shiny new qualifications with a whole lot of diving.

If you live in Kota Kinabalu or Sabah and would like get out more often to enjoy the treasures of Kota Kinabalu’s scuba scene, get in touch with us and join our KK Dive Club.

If you are attached to the Kinabalu International School, get in touch with Mr. Pearson directly.

Kinabalu International School Fun Dives with Downbelow

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012 @ 12:51 KK Dive Club, News

Students and teachers from the Kinabalu International School enjoying a day of fun-diving with Downbelow in Kota Kinabalu.

Downbelow welcomed the Kinabalu International School (KIS) for another fun dive.

The day was organized by KIS teacher and PADI Instructor Gareth Pearson, who brought the bunch of marine-loving students around to our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre on Gaya island, for a day of fun below the ocean’s surface.

All participants live in Sabah and are members of Downbelow’s very own KK Dive Club.

The KK Dive Club is open to anyone who currently lives in Sabah and offers discounts on diving, courses and merchandise at our dive shop in KK Times Square.

If you, as a resident of Sabah, have been thinking about how close the TAR Park is to Kota Kinabalu and how little you dive, you should look up the KK Dive Club and take advantage of the benefits.

Stop by our head office and dive shop in KK Times Square and get signed up.

If you are attending the Kinabalu International School as either a students or an employee, have a chat with Mr Pearson. Either way, we hope to see you diving with us soon.

Our Instructors Roy and Cyril took good care of the group.

They brought along their own instructor in their group leader, Gareth Pearson, but Downbelow’s instructors took such good care of the group that he got to enjoy a fun dive for a change.

We regularly have fun days out with members from our KK Dive Club, which is open to residents of Sabah.

Downbelow Office Crew Takes to the Water

Sunday, April 17th, 2011 @ 12:00 Diving Kota Kinabalu, KK Dive Club, News

Diving Kota Kinabalu, Sabah: Downbelow’s island crew dives everyday, so who can blame the office staff when we long for some diving action every now and then? It all happens just 10 minutes from Downbelow HQ after all.

Office Girls in the WaterOf Downbelow’s 13 office-based staff, 9 are divers.  Between us we now hold 3 Discover SCUBA Diving, 3 Open Water Diver, 1 Advanced Open Water, 1 Open Water SCUBA Instructor and 1 IDC Staff Instructor certifications.

Last weekend 4 of our office staff took to the water to help each other out.

Joanne and Ev kept their instructing skills sharp by presenting the Advanced Open Water Course to Alice & Sarah.

On dry land, and in the office, Joanne and Ev are Downbelow’s Marketing Director and Regional Manager respectively, whilst down below they are IDC Staff Instructors and Open Water SCUBA Instructors respectively.  Alice & Sarah are Travel Consultants in the dry, and were Open Water Divers in the wet.

Over 2 days, Sarah completed her Advanced Open Water Diver course, plus a couple of specialities including Peak Performance Buoyancy. Alice completed day 1 and is expected back on the island later in the month to complete day 2.

The next few weeks will see more of the staff get back in the water for diving fun and to up their qualifications.

Not only do we encourage our non-island staff to dive more often, but with Downbelow’s KK Dive Club we also encourage Sabah’s locals and residents to do the same.  By joining the club you get discount diving, enabling you to dive down below more often.

Drop by our KK Times Square office or email us direct and find out how to dive more for less.
