Borneo’s Extreme Adventure Experience with Downbelow

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010 @ 11:38 News, Promotions

SCUBA DIVING, WHITE WATER RAFTING & MOUNTAIN CLIMBING
9D8N PROGRAM

Coralscapes abound for divers in the TAR Park off Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo

This program is suited to the adrenaline junkie budget-conscious traveler in pursuit of an adventurous, “on the GO” experience in Borneo.

We take you on a journey of challenge & adventure with a program to experience three (3) of Borneo’s most popular adventure activities.

It includes scuba diving & interaction with our fascinating marine-life, to the raging rapids of the Padas River and to the top of one of South East Asia’s highest mountains – Mt Kinabalu.

DIVE DOWNBELOW

Our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive & Adventure center based on Gaya Island within the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park (TARP), Kota Kinabalu, Sabah provides a very special experience.

A resort like feel creates a fun place to spend a few days, enjoying the tropical surroundings and chatting about all the wonderful creatures you will have spotted.

When you choose to dive with us, we don’t just guide you. You embark on an adventure and you’ll see some of the most amazing underwater creatures.

Not a certified diver? don’t worry you won’t miss out !

Our program offers an added bonus where you can join our PADI Open Water Diver Course and come back from your holiday as a certified PADI Open Water Diver !!!

Whitewater Rafting on the Raging Padas River Rapids

THE RAGING RAPIDS

The Padas River’s 30km of white water rafting makes it the longest rafting journey in the whole of Borneo.

We will take you along wild Padas River, through seven rapid clusters graded III-IV, while you’re paddling through the middle of untouched nature.

Rafting the Padas River is fun, exciting and promises that you will experience the Borneo jungle in a way you will never forget!

CLIMB MT. KINABALU

Climing Mt. Kinabalu - yes, it's challenging

Rising to 4,095m, this great mountain is one of the highest peaks between the Himalayas and Irian Jaya on New Guinea.

This monolithic peak is an icon of natural history and successful conservation whilst maintaining its position as the most accessible of high mountains to climb.

The climb itself is more of a long, stair-filled walk that requires stamina and endurance, but is not a technically difficult climb.

The hike to Laban Rata takes between 4-6 hours, is 99% uphill, unrelenting and the trail is seemingly endless; you’ll be dreaming about steps and trails for days after.

If it’s a clear night, take a moment to look at the night sky as it’s simply stunning. The summit itself is……. well you have to go and find out, its worth it!

EXTREME ADVENTURE

This is a 9 Day / 8 Night adventure, there is NO peak season surcharge, single travelers may need to pay single supplements but we try to group likeminded people together to avoid this !!

Accommodation, meals, transfers, park, jetty, climbing permit fees, guides and equipment are all included but please contact us for rates and full details. International flights are excluded.

Downbelow is a PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre Our international staff provide personal, premier service at our PADI 5 Star Instructor Development (IDC) Dive Centre, where we pride ourselves on small group tuition with extremely high safety standards & procedures.

Sunday, November 7th, 2010 @ 10:06 News, Promotions

Take the Master Scuba Diver Challenge!!

in the best of the best in recreational scuba diving. Do it by becoming a PADI Master Scuba Diver – a rating that puts you in a class of distinction.

This is not a course in itself, its a direct application to PADI through a Dive Centre and it means that you’ve acquired significant training and experience in a variety of dive environments.

With the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating, you’ve reached the highest non professional level in the PADI System of diver education.

Learn how to capture your magical moments underwater with Downbelow's Digital Underwater Photography course

So How Does This Work?

Participants can join us for a 1 month internship or for the amount of time required to complete your training.

It could be as little as 1 day, it all depends on what diver qualifications and how many dives you have completed at the time of beginning the program.

The price of the course varies depending on what and how many specialities you will be taking.

The Master Scuba Diver Challenge

You can decide to take the challenge at any point of your diving education, because we will tailor the course to your specific diving ability and interest.

It also makes it easier for you to achieve this rating and makes it fun and rewarding.

To qualify as a Master Scuba Diver you must be a PADI Rescue Diver with 50 logged dives and 5 speciality ratings.

Take a look at our PADI Speciality Course page to decide which specialities interest you. Note that if during your PADI Advanced Course you completed one of the dives that correspond to your chosen speciality, it can be credited towards your speciality course and reduce the time and cost of the course.

For a limited period we are giving the Master Scuba Diver application fee for FREE!

Please contact us, telling us your current diver level, how many dives you have completed, how much time you have to complete the challenge and what level of accommodation you require – we will put together a fantastic quotation for you!

Project Aware – Beach & Underwater Clean Up on Gaya Island

Sunday, October 10th, 2010 @ 12:41 News, Promotions

Downbelow’s Project Aware – Beach & Underwater Clean Up Event in September was yet another fun filled day for a meaningful cause.

Downbelow invited participants from local businesses, schools, government, diving friends and our local dive club, there were 60 participants in total.

Project Aware in September on Gaya IslandWith Downbelow hosting the event providing organization, logistics, lunch and all day refreshments, volunteers collected 604KG of rubbish and raised RM 1,341 for The Project Aware Foundation.

We encouraged participants to enter our raffle to help raise money. Among the prizes were 1 free night at a local 5 star hotel and vouchers for discounted PADI Courses and Dive Equipment.

Affin Bank donated MYR 300.00 and smaller donations were made by individuals.

The day started with a choppy sea and a huge rainstorm however our group battled through. Richard would like to say a special thanks to the staff team for their hard work on this busy day & compliments particularly for the wonderful food.
All in all a fabulous day was had by all, fun but educational talks were given by some of the senior staff on marine and environmental conservation.

Thanks to everyone for their support and thank you to Sabah Parks who waived the diving permit fee and Sutera Harbour Marina for waiving the jetty fee.

Downbelow Marine & Wildlife Adventures heavily promotes the TAR Park’s diverse and vibrant underwater life and, when not on a mission to clean it, conducts daily diving and island activities to explore it.

Please take a look at our Facebook page to see more images of our Project Aware Clean Up Event !
