September Instructor Development Course candidates sit exams!

Saturday, September 13th, 2014 @ 09:00 IDC, News, PADI 教练发展课程

Cindy, Andy and John sit their PADI General Standards and Procedures exam at our purpose-built, multimedia classroom located at our Head Office on the mainland, Kota Kinabalu.

They’ve studied hard for their exams and determination is the only way to achieve their goals of becoming a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor!

During their Instructor Development Course (IDC), the three will fully comprehend the system of dive education and be fully prepared to conduct PADI courses and programs with confident control and professionalism.

Apart from exams to test their knowledge of the PADI Standards and dive theory, the performance of their in-water teaching abilities will also be examined by our Go PRO team to build their strengths and provide counseling on any weaknesses.

A Go PRO internship program to incorporate dive professional development is highly recommended by our Go PRO team, who attest to experience as the best method of learning.

Halfway Done with September IDC in Sabah, Malaysia

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012 @ 10:00 IDC, News, PADI 教练发展课程, Professional Diving Internships

Downbelow's Go Pro Instructor Paul presents a module as part of the PADI Instructor Development Course in Sabah, Malaysia

We have a bunch of early birds attending our September PADI IDC, which means our resident PADI Course Director Richard Swann could start a little earlier and give our candidates a little bonus IDC time.

We’re now halfway through September’s Instructor Development Course and our candidates are doing exceptionally well.

The PADI Instructor Examination is set to take place on 12 & 13 September in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, which is – for all practical reasons – crunch time.

The Instructor Exam is the time to show the PADI Examiner how they have developed Instructors, the skills they’ve learned, the knowledge they’ve gained and how they will implement it in real-world situations when they’re working as professional scuba instructors and teaching new divers.

The PADI Instructor Exam is usually a stressful time for IDC candidates, but with the adequate preparation and excellent support our candidates are receiving from Richard and his Go Pro team, they will have nothing to worry about.

Besides, with just a bout a week left, our candidates have ample time to identify their pain-points and for Downbelow’s Go Pro team to give them extra guidance if needed.

But, with most of the skills in the bag and the required knowledge thoroughly crunched, all that is left is to practice, evaluate, rinse and repeat – then polish any jagged edges that remain.

We excitedly look forward to the PADI Instructor Examination and, until then, keep a keen eye on our candidates doing their IDC in Sabah, Malaysia.

Join Downbelow this September and become a professional open water scuba instructor

As you’ve probably noticed from our recent posts, we’re gearing up for the September PADI Instructor Development Course at our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre on Gaya island in Sabah, Malaysia.

We have a lively group of Professional Scuba Diving interns resident at the moment, 7 of whom look forward to becoming PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors during next month’s PADI IDC.

We still have space available on our September Instructor Development Course, so now is the time to join us and become a PADI Scuba Instructor!

Downbelow provides quality PADI education at world-class facilities in Sabah, where we strictly adhere to PADI procedures and British HSE guidelines.

We also dive every day and as we’re a busy dive centre, our interns always have the option of getting involved and gaining more experience or, because our interns have access to unlimited diving, there is never a reason not to practice diving skills.

It’s no wonder Downbelow-trained graduates are known as highly skilled and experienced scuba professionals.

Once our Interns have completed the IDC & IE, combined with the real-world, hands-on experience they are gaining right now under the direction of resident PADI Course Director Richard Swann and his Go Pro team, they will have a significant edge in the professional scuba diving job market.

The Instructor Development Course starts on 31 August, runs until 11 September and is immediately followed by the PADI Instructor Exam on 12 & 13 September.

Get in touch with us now and this September you too can Go Pro with Downbelow.

Pro Intern Starts Experience for PADI IDC in Sabah, Malaysia

Wednesday, July 25th, 2012 @ 11:39 News, PADI 教练发展课程, Professional Diving Internships

Victor (centre left) with PADI Pro Roy (centre right) and their DSD charges

Clearly here to learn, our September PADI IDC candidate and Professional Scuba Diving Intern Victor didn’t waste a moment to get involved and start learning.

He joined old hand Roy to present a Discover Scuba Diving experience to 4 of Downbelow’s guests at our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre here on Gaya island in Kota Kinabalu.

Victor is taking part in the Instructor Development Course that runs from 2 – 13 September, but joined us early to gain that valuable edge with real-world, hands-on experience.

The value for Intern Victor is two-fold. First it will benefit him in the short-term, because it will make his IDC easier and ultimate benefit him in Instructor Exam. Ample opportunity to repeat the knowledge, will ensure that he retains it better.

Over the long term, and looking ahead to when he will be seeking employment as a professional in the diving industry, he will be able to say he has on-the-job experience at a busy dive centre where they dived every day.

Not only will Victor get to assist with Downbelow’s varied and interesting clientelle, but he will also get a hands-on, behind-the-scenes look at the operations of a busy dive centre.

This type of experience money just can’t buy, and Downbelow is in a unique position to be able to offer this experience to our professional interns.

Downbelow has an action packed month ahead, so our Interns are in for a treat.

Instructor Development Course class of February 2012 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia

Our February PADI Instructor Development Course wrapped up here in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah when our candidates successfully completed the PADI Instructor Examination.

“The February IDC has been one of the best ever,” recalled resident PADI Course Director Richard Swann, “with a great group of candidates from all over the world.”

“We also had whale sharks during the course for everyone to see,” he said with a glint in his eye, fondly remembering the awesome whale shark photos he got of these gentle giants who couldn’t have made a more dramatic appearance in the waters of Kota Kinabalu’s TAR Park.

Our IDC candidates turned PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor have mostly completed their work here in Sabah, Borneo, although some will stay around longer yet to gain more experience teaching and diving during the tail end of their professional internships.

Gaining a qualification is one thing, but being able to go to your future employer with actual, on-the-job instructing experience puts you in a league above the rest.

For aspiring Open Water Scuba Instructors, Downbelow’s next Instructor Development Course is scheduled for 16 – 25 May with the Instructor Exam following right after on 26 & 27 May 2012.

Contact us to book your spot and Go Pro with Downbelow, or get experience before hand with our professional diving internships, which we will tailor to your needs, for anything from 1 – 6 months.

Master Scuba Diver Gains Rewarding Speciality

Saturday, November 5th, 2011 @ 12:13 Courses, News, PADI 教练发展课程, Professional Diving Internships

Master Scuba Diver Rizal and his AWARE Shark Conservation Instructor James (on the left)Sabah, Borneo: Downbelow’s Master Scuba Diver Challenger, Rizal, has racked up a slew of PADI courses during his Master Scuba Diver challenge recently, amongst them a whole bag of speciality courses.

One speciality in particular, however, stands out amongst the rest as being very rewarding.

The AWARE Shark Conservation Speciality teaches the avid diver all about sharks, the problems their populations face and solutions for solving the crisis sharks are in.

Clearly and avid diver, Rizal threw himself at the AWARE Shark Conservation Speciality and happily became a shark super hero, ready to stand up and be counted in the fight for shark survival.

As a Master Scuba Diver, Rizal is at the top of the recreational diver food chain and with the AWARE Shark Conservation Speciality under his belt, he understands more about the creatures at the top of the ocean’s food chain also.

A big shout out to Master Scuba Diver Rizal who will be doing the same for sharks!
